The Basics What does a Peer Group look like?

Good question. Peer groups are comprised of 18-22 independent veterinary practice owners. They are assembled for:

  • Varied experiences and different geographies
  • Shared priorities and business goals
  • Similar patient focus (i.e. Mixed Animal Practice, Equine Practice, Companion Practice, Specialty Practices)

As a VMG member, you will engage in valuable sessions where groups discuss trends, challenges, and best practices. These facilitated discussions are guided by a skilled moderator, ensuring productive and focused conversations in a safe, confidential environment.

Our meetings foster a collaborative atmosphere, encouraging the open exchange of experiences and solutions. You’ll gain actionable insights and practical takeaways to implement within your organization.

Members enjoy access to shared resources, tools, and industry insights, including our professional development and purchasing programs.

Join a community of like-minded professionals who share your practices and goals, yet bring a diversity of backgrounds and experiences in the veterinary industry. This unique opportunity allows you to build meaningful connections with industry peers for mutual support and growth.

Harness the collective knowledge, skills, and relationships within your VMG group to enhance your intellectual capital and elevate your practice to the next level.

Q: “That sounds hard. How do I set up a study group?”

A: “You don’t. VMG takes care of organizing the groups and creating the structure, including finding potential new members. But your group ultimately runs itself. It’s the heart of independence.”

– Dr. Chloe Magaldino, VMG Director of Group Development

The Meetings Meet twice a year to share knowledge and friendship

What happens at your twice-yearly meetings?

It starts with planning. Meetings have clear agendas and are planned in advance by the group. This helps strengthen the team and form a solid plan.

What then?

You learn from experts. You talk about your experiences and you share stories of learning from failures: yours or others.

You discuss the most important issues facing your personal hospital as well as other independent veterinarians.

You help your peers, and you receive help, too.

Q: “Planning these meetings sounds like a lot of work. Is it going to take a substantial amount of time?”

A: “No — the staff at VMG helps you select a location, book hotels, conference rooms, speakers, and more. Our operations team takes care of the details. Your group just chooses a city and gets there. It’s a commitment — but we make it easy for you.”

What Your Peer Study Group Discusses: Everything

Owning and managing a veterinary hospital comes with a lot of questions. How do you increase revenue? What can you do to boost productivity? Handle inflation? When should you sell? Should you sell? How do you deal with attrition? What’s new with social media and what should we be doing as a practice?

Whether it is formal learning or peer-to-peer communication, you aren’t going to be short on details.

Q: “These people are great! Can I talk to them more than twice a year?”

A: “Absolutely. While every group differs on their method of communication all have group chats, communication platforms or apps. It’s great: if you have a question, you know there are 20 people who have probably faced the same issue.”

– Dr. Chloe Magaldino, VMG Director of Group Development
