About Dr. Mike Thomas

Dr. Thomas lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with honors from Auburn University. After owning a small animal practice in Miami and practicing there for several years, he moved back to his native Indiana roots, where he was born in Shelbyville.

Over the years he has accumulated 11 practices, mostly from retiring veterinarians 10 in Central Indiana and one in Wheaton, IL.

He is a Past President of the American Animal Hospitals Association, Past Chair of the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, Past president of the Companion Animal Parasite Council, Vice President and Chair of The Strategic Opportunities Committee and serves on the Board of Directors for Veterinary Information Network.

American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) named Dr. R. Michael Thomas Practitioner of the Year in 2008. He was honored by Auburn University being named the Distinguished Alumni in 2009. In addition, he received the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners award in 2011.

Dr. Thomas has veterinary licenses in six states. His professional interests include recent and current changes in veterinary medicine and helping private veterinary practice survive and thrive. He is also interested in, veterinary medical ethics, companion animal general practice, orthopedic and general surgery, dermatology, and facilitating the practice of extraordinary veterinary medicine through assembling an outstanding group of doctors and training of support staff.

In his spare time he loves spending time with family and grandchildren. In his spare time he likes to travel, spend time on, a boat, or his tractor. In addition to He has five dogs and two cats and had horses for over 30 years.
